The digital video Fragmented Narrative explores the fragmented and sometimes random nature of the parallel narratives existing in postage stamps and letters as well as the idea that our actions cause a myriad of possibilities. Using a digital and impersonal format for this project contrasts with the materiality of postage stamps and letters and comments on how this very personal method of communication is fading. American artist, Camille Utterback also explores the creation of new narratives fragmented ones in her interactive digital installation Text Rain. Created in an application called Processing, this short program selects 38 random words from the 54 letters and displays frequency graphs for their occurrence. The randomly generated words refer to predictive text used in electronic communication. The overlapping curves randomly mask one of the 75 postage stamps received, alluding to the subjective and fragmented nature of narrative.
